The Rimkok Resort Hotel is situated in the center of one of the most exotic and fascinating areas of the world; Chiang Rai. Chiang Rai is Thailand's northernmost province and is bordered by the neighboring states of Laos and Burma. The ancient city of Chiang Rai was once the capital of the fabled lanna kingdom. It was founded in 1262 by King Mengrai as he began to extend his domain southwards.

According to legend the city was built on the spot where he found his favorite elephant. He felt that the site along the banks of the Kok River was an auspicious one and thus Chiang Rai came into being.

Relatively inaccessible until recently, Chiang Rai still retains its unique and natural charm. the city is perfectly situated for exploring Thailand's northern areas. Within one or two hours drive are ancient historical towns such as Chiang Saen and exciting places of tourist interest like Mae Sai on the Thai-Burmese border, the Golden Triangle (about 10 kilometers from Chiang Saen ) and Doi Mae Salong. The surrounding mountains and forests are home to the many colorful mountain tribes of the north such as Lisu, Lahu, Yao and Karen.
